About the event
Kearsarge Food Hub is partnering with the Nulhegan Band of Coosuk Abenaki Nation and Warner Public Market to co-host a screening of the film Gather followed by discussion.
This film goes into detail regarding the genocide of Native people here in the US, specifically through cutting off food sources. It's really hard stuff. Yet, while it digs into this difficult history, it also offers hope for the future. There is a chance now to bring this history to light, for Native Communities to reclaim their food sovereignty, and for all of us to be a part of collaborative solutions moving forward!
The screening will be followed by discussion led by Sherry Gould, Tribal Genealogist in the Nulhegan Band of Coosuk Abenaki, Department of Cultural and Historic Preservation. Sherry will tell us about the Abenaki Trails Project, lend insight on the current food needs of the Nulhegan Band of Coosuk Abenaki, and hopefully we can plant some seeds amongst us all to help better meet those needs here in the Kearsarge Area!
About the film
A portrait of a growing movement amongst Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities through obtaining sovereignty over their ancestral food systems, while battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide.
